silly quiz!

And very silly such quizes are.  Still remember the time that a bunch of SF writers took a quiz that told you what SF writer you were and one of the options was Jerry Pournelle -- but the quiz told Jerry Pournelle that he was Robert Heinlein

Hurt

Mirrored from the latest entry in Daron's Guitar Chronicles.

(Thanks to everyone who donated this week! Here’s a Saturday post for topping the $50 threshold!)

Carynne worked her persuasive magic and Ziggy’s shrink, a sharp-eyed woman named Dr. Elizabeth Franks, arrived around the time I woke up. Everyone was in a holding pattern while she and Digger went off to the hospital.

Jonathan had to leave. He clearly didn’t want to. He really wanted to “be there” for me. I was touched. On the other hand I wanted to hide. I wanted to stick my head in the sand and have someone wake me up when the waiting was over. So it was just as well he had to go.

Review of Goal-Fish

 Here's a thoughtful review of Goal-Fish, a project I promoted earlier.

Legend Come to Life

My partner Doug tipped me to this picture of a red-winged blackbird riding a hawk.  It reminded me of a Native American legend about the birds all collaborating to steal fire from the sun.  They rode up in stages, the last being Hawk carrying Blackbird.  Blackbird succeeded, but his beautiful plumage was burnt to black and you can still see the marks of the two red-hot coals that he carried back on his shoulders.

Monster and Muse Fusion

A couple of days ago, I was going to post one of my monster sketches from last weekend, but Live Journal wouldn't let me post. Hopefully that won't be a problem tonight, be cause Elizabeth wrote a poem about the creature in one of my sketches!

So, here is the current sketch of the Unicorn Jelly:

And here is the link to the poem:  http://ysabetwordsmith.livejournal.com/2836864.html

Finally, we would welcome some new prompts, whether related to Sea Monsters or not.  Of course, you're welcome to come peek in on us as we create or even join us.  http://torn-world.livejournal.com/151363.html

Poem: "Installing the Unicorn"

This is the freebie for the May 2013 Muse Fusion over on Torn World. It was inspired by a prompt from LiveJournal user Wyld_dandelyon, along with her art and description of a new sea creature which is currently in development. This also fills the #5 Drift slot in the [community profile] rainbowfic Moonlight list.

tidbits cross time

Queen Elizabeth's Master of Horse helped her mount and dismount, making him the only man who could touch her legally.

Since a tontine paid an annuity for the lifetime of the designated person, people quickly learned to arrange for the designated person to be a five-year-old girl, for maximum effect. Girls lived longer, and in the 19th century, you waited for five to get past the fearful infant mortality.

In early Islamic empire, you had to affiliate with an Arabic tribe, and usually take on an Arabic name, to convert to Islam.

Muse Fusion Open!

The May 2013 Muse Fusion is open over on Torn World.  We're looking for prompts about sea monsters, but other ideas are welcome too.  Come leave or claim prompts, or just enjoy the goodies.

What I Have Written

"Installing the Unicorn" -- this session's freebie is a poem about a new aquarium.

From My Prompts

[personal profile] ellenmillion has drawn an awesome picture of a heat-thief eating a young deathfin.  These are two related species of Torn World sea monsters.  They don't ordinarily live together, but individuals may travel outside the usual ranges.

Read "The Museum of Mortality" Part 1

If you are a Torn World supporter, you can now read my story "The Museum of Mortality" Part 1.  This is a sequel to the publicly visible story "Without Fail."
Brelig works in a museum while recovering from a sea monster fight.
